From the East Coast to us comes An Open Sketchbook, bringing you a diverse collection of art prints and greeting cards, initially inspired by their own kids! We’re big fans of their Watercolor Plush series, but we think all of you Mouse fans out their have really enjoyed their holiday-specific greeting cards so far, hehe. Read on to learn about their interesting backstory and the Twinterns!
An Open Sketchbook
What’s your business story?
It all started with a blog and a personal challenge: to record the sketches that got lost in the pages of closed sketchbooks. Today, it is a dream come true. Working together from our home studio, we collaborate on an assortment of projects from illustration and product design to the hardest and most inspiring project of all, parenting our twin boys, Max and Miles, aka The Twinterns.
What’s your backstory?
Before we officially started working for ourselves, I taught design at a local university and Edgar spent much of his time traveling as a visual merchandiser for an Italian furniture company.
We see our artwork as a way to document our life. As such, each of our nursery friends is inspired by one of The Twinterns’ stuffed animals. The first in this series, The Sleepy Giraffe, was given to the boys at their first baby shower.
What other names have you been known to go by?
My nickname from Edgar is ‘G’ as in ‘G-Unit’…what began as a joke in reference to 50 Cent ended up engraved on my engagement ring: ‘Forever G’.
